Our Story
The art of crafting The Reid Single Malt Vodka begins in the Cardrona Valley with the careful selection of the finest raw materials.
Ingredients
Our process
Made from three carefully selected ingredients: pristine alpine water from Mount Cardrona, barley from the rich Canterbury plains and distiller’s yeast. Combined with our team’s meticulous craftsmanship to result in a spirit that epitomises purity and elegance. The Reid Single Malt Vodka is decadently rich with notes of pear drops, lemon, toffee and malt biscuits.
Water
The distillery prides itself on maintaining a commitment to quality, using pure New Zealand water from pristine sources. Our water is drawn from Alvin’s well which is fed by the flanks of Mount Cardrona itself. The water is sweet – the first ingredient in making great spirits.
Barley
The King of Grains – our barley is grown on the rich Canterbury plains, and then malted to exacting standards. The malted barley is milled on site at the distillery and then combined with pristine alpine water in a Forsyth Lauter mash tun.
Yeast
The distiller’s yeast is added, and the magic of fermentation begins.
OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
The Reid believes in preserving and bettering our environment for future generations. From the beginning we have focused on minimising our impact on our environment and making a positive contribution to our community, both locally and wherever our spirits are sold.
Place
Our distillery is designed to tread softly amongst the Cardrona Valley, which has been designated an Outstanding Natural Landscape. We have World Class Buildings designed to recycle distillery heat to warm the visitor buildings, thermally insulated with natural earth-wool insulation.
People
Our people are of utmost importance and The Reid is a highly regarded employer in our community. Our Distillery is female founded and led. We are pleased to support community initiatives and charities both locally in the Queenstown Lakes District and around the country.
Impact
Our Most Precious Resource. More than 95% of the water Cardrona uses is borrowed from our aquifer. We return the water in pristine condition. We constantly endeavour to reduce our waste to landfill.
